Ted Cruz Seeking Electoral Victory: 4 Elements of Cruz's Blueprint to Presidency

ONE
On March 23, 2015, Ted Cruz announced that he would run for president in 2016.  Cruz will ensure that the primary debates are lively.  As an award-winning debater at Princeton, he rejects compromise and he does not mind annoying other Republicans.  Months after being sworn into the Senate, Cruz led a 16-day government shut-down over Obamacare.

Ted Cruz is a Cuban American.  He is the first hispanic senator from Texas.  According to Business Insider, Donald Trump, who is considering a presidential bid, questioned if the Ted Cruz was eligible to become commander-in-chief.  Trump was referring to the fact that Cruz was born in Canada.  Ted Cruz is a U.S. citizen because his mother was born in the United States.

TWO
Gawker reports that many Liberty students savaged Cruz's speech on the application Yik Yak.  Cruz is no stranger to performing under pressure.  He has argued nine cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Cruz was also a law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

THREE
Cruz's strategy is to unite Christian evangelical voters with Tea Party supporters.  This is why he chose to make his announcement at Liberty University, which was founded by evangelical leader Jerry Falwell, as opposed to announcing his candidacy in his home state, Texas.  Cruz's father is a pastor at a church in Dallas, TX.

FOUR
President Obama and Ted Cruz have a long list of differences yet there are some similarities between the two.  Victory can be earned through innovation yet imitation is a strategy that can be also lead to success.  The Transatlantic Magazine reports, Senator Cruz and President Obama are far apart in ideology, temperament and their domestic policy views yet the two share numerous similarities.  Similar to Cruz, President Obama was a junior US Senator when he ran for president in 2008.  Obama was the first African American President and if Cruz were to be elected, he would be America's first Hispanic president.

Similar to President Barack Obama, Ted Cruz was a law professor.  Cruz and President Obama both graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and they both have two daughters.  Heidi Cruz did not attend Harvard Law School like First Lady Michelle Obama yet she received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

We will see if Cruz will be able to use these factors to his benefit next year.  Nonetheless, imitation should not be viewed negatively.  Where innovators have won big, many imitators, who have refined past innovations, have been able to win bigger.
